Crete is the birthplace of the first European civilization, the Minoan, which flourished between 3000 BC and 1200 BC mainly in Central and Eastern Crete. The Minoan fleet, the strongest of its era, as evidenced by several findings in the Mediterranean, brought wealth to Crete from the trade of the famous Cretan cypress and agricultural products. Built in large yards, such as the shipyard of Saint Theodori at Vathianos Kambos, ships were loaded with timber, honey, wine, pottery and olive oil. Forts, scenic harbors, palaces, fountains and temples are the main attractions of the cities. On the other hand, the interesting attractions in the hinterland include arched bridges, water and windmills, aqueducts, cisterns and chapels. Venetian and Ottoman architectural patterns, combined with features of folklore architecture, are evident in contemporary houses. Arched gates since the Venetian era, and sahnisi (protruding covered balcony) since the Ottoman era, are some of the features used even today. Also, the island has a rich history and culture. You’ll have the first taste of its historical past just by wandering in the Chania town. Strolling around, you’ll come across noble mansions, Venetian fortresses, museums, fountains and churches, that ooze a unique charm. But, to dive even deeper into the island’s history, Knossos Palace, Phaistos Palace, and Spinalonga islet are must places to visit in Crete. Village Culture Untouched by mass tourism, villages are the backbone of Cretan culture and identity – especially those tucked in the hills and mountains. Look for musicians striking up a free-form jam on local instruments, such as the stringed lyra (lyre), or wedding celebrants weaving their traditional regional dances. Meeting regular folk gossiping in kafeneia (coffee houses), preparing their Easter feast, tending to their sheep or celebrating during the island’s many festivals is what makes a visit to Crete so special.

Crete is a tapestry of splendid beaches, ancient treasures and landscapes, weaving in vibrant cities and dreamy villages, where locals share their traditions, wonderful cuisine and generous spirit.

There’s something undeniably artistic in theway the Cretan landscape unfolds, fromthe sun-drenched beaches in the north to the rugged canyons spilling out at the cove-carved and cliff-lined southern coast. In between, valleys cradle moody villages, and round-shouldered hills are the overture to often snow-dabbed mountains. Take it all in on a driving tour, trek through Europe’s longest gorge, hike to the cave where Zeus was born or cycle among orchards on the Lasithi Plateau. Leave time to plant your footprints on a sandy beach, and boat, kayak or snorkel in the crystalline waters. Rich Historical Tapestry Crete’s natural beauty is equalled only by the richness of its history. The Mediterranean - Flavours and Beaches

The Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest diets in the world and Crete has one of the oldest and most delicious gastronomic traditions. Sure, it’s similar to the rest of Greece, but there’s something unique and special about the Cretan way of cooking. It’s healthy, it’s fresh, simple, yet extremely flavourful and of course, downright delicious. The “must try foods” in Crete are the olive oil, referred to as the “liquid gold”, Dakos, a chopped tomato, fresh cheese, herbs and olive oil placed on top of a Paximadi (rusk) and the Sarikopitakia, a well-known cheese pie. Besides the food, Crete beaches are out of this world. Surrounded by verdant nature, they have magical waters covering all the shades of blue and sugar-fine sand. Balos beach, Vai beach, and Elafonisi beach are some of the most scenic Crete beaches. It consists of 4 top-of-the-range fast water slides for children taller than 3.9 feet, an Aqua Tower for smaller kids in which the closed tubes have a minimum height of 3.3 feet and the open tubes are available for every age with parental supervision. The waterpark fulfils all safety measures and the lifeguards are trained and certified. Additionally, Euphoria designed exciting activities for every age so that all kids can play, create, have fun, make new friends and exhaust their energy. The Kid’s Vibes have three different age groups and each one of them has its own schedule. Kids can find exciting games to exhaust their energy, make new friends, laugh and enjoy their vacation. Top-of-the-range water slides (4 fast slides), fulfilling all safety measures and a swimming pool with an amazing aqua tower are the ultimate entertainment for your family. Waterfalls and colorful towers are a magical scenery for kids and adults, to experience magnificent moments.
