Alcohol is tolerated and drinking is possible in the plentiful hotel bars and restaurants. CULTURE Culture in Dubai is rooted in Islamic traditions. Emirati men tend to dress in traditional dishdasha or khandura (long white shirt-dress), with ghutra (a white headdress) and agal (a rope worn to keep the ghutra in place), while women tend to wear an abaya (a long black cloak), with a sheyla or hijab (a scarf used to wrap around the face and head). The most religious time of the year is Ramadan, when Muslims fast for approximately a month and a festival atmosphere can be found in the evening when the locals break their fast. But as well as the minarets of mosques, you will also see temples and churches. The new opera house in downtown is now open, and a great opportunity to experiance HISTORY The human history of Dubai dates back to the bronze age (2500BC) when nomadic cattle herders are first thought to have settled in the area. A couple of millennia later and Dubai was still little more than a small fishing settlement

until members of the Bani Yas tribe, led by the Maktoum Family, settled at the mouth of the creek in 1833. The creek was a natural harbour and Dubai soon became a centre for the fishing, pearling and sea trade. The population was later buoyed by the lure of tax-free living attracting traders from the Indian subcontinent. Oil was discovered in the 1950s and the first cargo left Dubai in 1969. In 1971, the six emirates agreed a Federal Constitution, gained independence from Britain becoming the United Arab Emirates, with Ras Al Khaimah joining the following year to form the UAE as it is today.

Devised by the maverick American lawyer and surf fanatic Thomas Lochtefeld, the Wipeout works by shooting out more than seven tonnes of water per second in a thin sheet across a moulded foam structure, producing a realistic wave effect ideal for body-boarding and knee-boarding (or stand-up flowboarding during private events).

JUMEIRAH SCEIRAH With two tandem slides, guests first climb the 32 metres tower and enjoy a spectacular view of the entire waterpark. Enter the Jumeirah Sceirah capsule, with your friend in the next, cross your arms, and await the biggest rush imaginable. The feeling of anticipation rushes through you as the countdown begins. Before you know it, the floor beneath you opens and you both slide down the 120 metres slide at an astonishing speed of 80 km/h!

BURJ SURJ The adventurous Burj Surj consists of two large sections of downhill waterslides and the looming ‘Bowl’. Guests are seated on a tube, travelling downhill to the bowl, where they are hurtled into two spiraling spins and then dropped into the slide, ending with a screaming splash in the pool.

MASTER BLASTERS Get ready for a series of high-powered water jets on an aquatic roller-coaster ride. The Master Blaster rides are gravity-defying rides that rocket guest up to 15 metres above ground level which start off either in White Water Wadi or Flood River Flyer. The other Master Blasters are Flying Falls, Falaj Fury, Jebel Lookout, Wadi Leap, Hos’N Hurler, Falcon Fury, Thunder Rapids, Rushing Rapids, Wadi Twister, Wadi Basher and the Tunnel of Doom.

TANTRUM ALLEY Tantrum Alley incorporates two large sections of downhill waterslides and three exciting tornadoes. Guests seated on a four-person tube will travel downhill to enter the first tornado where they slide back and forth several times, then circle around and around in the eye of the storm before exiting and hitting the second and third tornados, after which they splash out into the pool.

DHOW & LAGOON With over 100 water activities including 5 slides, a pair of racing slides, and water guns, Juha’s Dhow and Lagoon was especially designed for families with little ones in mind. The vibrant and colorful body slides, two of which are completely enclosed, add excitement and fun for our younger guests. Beware of the large dumping bucket that will soak the guests right below it every 2 minutes!

JUHA’S JOURNEY Juha’s Journey is a 360-metre long lazy river. Guests of all ages can enjoy this relaxing ride around a river with a gentle current. A rather pleasant break after riding the exciting Jumeirah Sceirah or one of the many uphill waterslides throughout the park.

Arrival in Dubai and transfer to the 4* Novotel World Trade Centre. In the morning after breakfast we start the tour by exploring the most modern structures of Dubai, Atlantis The Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel (outside view), Burj Khalifa (outside view only), Emirates towers, Twin towers, and Sky Scrapers on

the Sheikh Zayed road. The traditional and historic tour provides you with a glimpse of a harmonious co- existence of different religions and cultures from all over the world, a great example of the tolerance and understanding of the Arabian culture. During the tour you will pass by the famous Mosque in Jumeirah and proceed through Jumeirah Beach Road so as to have a bird’s eye view of beautifully laid residential buildings. En route we will see the camel race track. The tour then winds its way onto the historic and romantic Dubai Creek. Dubai Museum offers a fascinating insight of the city in the pre-oil days. For all the gold lovers, the tour today will take us to the million – dollar glitter of the largest Gold Souk in the world. This full day tour today takes you to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, which is situated about 170 km southwest of Dubai. Many of the city’s striking examples of modern architectures show fascinating interpretations of Islamic themes captured in today’s materials. We learn everything there is to know regarding their oil industry – the so called “black gold” – and how it has transformed Abu Dhabi into the wealthy city of today. A reminder of the historical past is the renovated Al Husn Palace – now home of

the Centre of Documentation and Research. A drive along the beautiful Corniche gives a magnificent view of the city, followed by a visit to the Heritage Village.
