The Marienplatz Christmas Market

The Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz is a must-see in the Christmas season in Munich. In the middle of the old town you can find traditional crafts and holiday coziness with mulled wine and culinary delicacies such as roasted almonds, doughnuts and much more. Here you can find out what the unique Christmas market, whose roots go back to the 14th century, has to offer. This is the original Christmas market – and it’s steeped in tradition. If you’d like to discover Bavarian customs in the run- up to Christmas, you’ll find a whole world of possibilities at the Munich Christmas market. People of all ages can watch and get involved in lots of activities right up to Christmas Eve. The Munich Christmas market is also a classic food market with all sorts of Christmas gift ideas. Come and enjoy the traditional sweets, treats and mulled wine, traditional wine taverns (“Heurige”) and work your way through famous culinary specialities. The Christmas ”Himmelswerkstatt” workshop in the town hall is a great experience for children aged 6 to 12. This is where young visitors to the Christmas market can make creative Christmas presents and confectionery.
