ROCS GROUP, ST ANNE STREET, FLORIANA WWW.ROCSHOLIDAYS.COM • 2015 1515 • TRAVEL@ROCSGRP.COM Egypt Golden deserts, bustling Nile cities, majestic pyramids, sacred temples, and legendary hospitality make Egypt a land of enduring wonder. THE TIMELESS LAND Often described as the cradle of civilization, Egypt reveals its magic through layers of history carved into stone, sand, and river. This is a country where the past lives beside the present, where every monument tells a story, and where the Nile threads life through desert and delta alike. From vibrant marketplaces to timeless tombs, Egypt invites travellers to experience a land shaped by faith, ingenuity, and the pulse of human ambition. Journeying through Egypt is an immersion in contrast. Modern urban life flows alongside ancient grandeur, from the bustling streets of Cairo to the silent corridors of temples, tombs, and pyramids. The rhythm of life here is deeply rooted in tradition, yet effortlessly welcoming — guided by a culture that celebrates generosity, storytelling, and connection. Etched into limestone cliffs and crowned by monumental temples, Egypt’s heritage is both monumental and intimate. Pharaohs’ cities rise from the desert, sacred temples stand as testaments to belief and power, and riverbanks offer vistas that have inspired pilgrims and travelers for millennia. Stone, sun, and water combine to create landscapes that feel eternal, spiritual, and profoundly cinematic. With ROCS Travel, your journey through Egypt is thoughtfully curated to reveal the soul of this extraordinary land. Discover a capital that blends ancient foundations with contemporary life, where mosques, markets, and modern culture sit alongside pharaonic relics. Travel along the Nile, across deserts once traversed by caravan and camel, and into valleys where history, nature, and human artistry coexist in remarkable harmony. Egypt is more than a collection of iconic sights. It is the stillness of dawn over the pyramids, the warm glow of sandstone at sunset, the generosity of a shared meal, and the quiet awe of walking in the footsteps of millennia. From awe-inspiring scenery and sacred heritage to moments of reflection and refined comfort, Egypt offers a journey that lingers long after the road home.

Day 1: Meet your ROCS Travel Group Manager at Malta International Airport for your flight to Cairo via Istanbul.
Day 2: Arrival and transfer to hotel for check in at your 5* Fairmont Nile City Hotel.
Breakfast and depart for your excursion to the Citadel, Old Cairo and Khan El Khalili Bazaar. The Citadel was modified and enlarged over the centuries by subsequent rulers, most notably Muhammad Ali Pasha, one of the great builders of Modern Egypt, who was responsible for considerable alteration and building within the Citadel. Today it is a complex of four mosques and four museums, including the beautiful and graceful Mohamed Ali Mosque. Built from 1830 to 1857, the mosque also became the site of the great Ottoman ruler’s tomb. From the arcaded courtyard, enjoy a magnificent view across the city to the pyramids in Giza. Proceed to the fascinating Khan El-Khalili Bazaar – reputedly the largest bazaar in the Middle East. Originally founded as a watering stop for caravanserai in the 14th century, the bazaar has now grown to vast proportions. As you wander through the labyrinth of narrow streets you will find workshops and stalls selling all manner of craftsmanship from woodwork, glassware and leather goods to perfumes, fabrics and Pharaonic curiosities. DAY 3 PYRAMIDS - SPHINX - GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before setting off to explore some of Cairo’s most iconic highlights. The pyramids Visit the 4,500-year-old Pyramids built for Pharaohs Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus on the Giza Plateau, the Great Pyramid being the only survivor of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World”. Just to the east of the 2nd pyramid lies the legendary Sphinx, whose human face is thought to represent that of Chephren, acting as the guardian of the Pharaoh’s enormous funerary monument. Sphinx: Visit the Valley Temple, housing the mysterious Sphinx, located in what was once a quarry to the east of Chephren’s pyramid. One theory suggests this Pharaoh’s workers shaped the body into a lion and gave it their king’s face, as a guardian of the necropolis. Almost a thousand years after its construction, King Thutmose IV placed a stela between the front paws. It describes how the Sphinx had spoken to the then prince in a dream, promising him kingship if he cleared away the desert sand that was choking the Sphinx.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) complex is a cultural hub that includes one of the largest museums in the world displaying the diverse heritage of a single civilization. The Museum contains over 100,000 artefacts, reflecting Egypt’s past from prehistory up until the Greek and Roman periods. One of the most impressive exhibits is that of the boy-King Tutankhamun which displays over 5,000 artefacts that were recovered from his tomb, including his gold mask. As you enter the museum, you can’t miss the colossal statue of King Ramses II, nor the 87 huge royal artefacts exhibited at the grand stairs that lead up to an impressive 28-meter-high glass façade overlooking the pyramids of Giza.

DAY 5 HIGH DAM – PHILAE TEMPLE - UNFINISHED OBELISK After breakfast, visit the Aswan High Dam, Egypt’s most notable example of a modern engineering feat. Its construction in the 1960’s was somewhat controversial due to the loss of Nubian villages and temples which now lie under Lake Nasser, the world’s largest artificial lake. However, the resulting electricity generated by the dam supplies the whole of Egypt. Short motorboat ride to visit the romantic and majestic Philae Temple on the Island of Agilika. This will be followed by a visit to the Granite Quarries, which supplied the ancient Egyptians with most of the hard stone used in pyramids and temples, and still hold a huge unfinished obelisk.
