Geiranger is surrounded by steep mountains on either side of the fjord, which has made it one of the most visited tourist destination in Norway. Along the side of the fjord, there are number of now abandoned farms. The most visited among these are Skageflå, Knivsflå and Blomberg. Skageflå may be reached by foot from Geiranger, while the others can only be reached from the fjord.
