Initially commissioned for World War I but not completed until it had ended, the ship was sold and used as a floating warehouse during the prohibition. It ran aground during a hurricane and was then used as target practice for U.S. fighter planes during the Second World War. The partially submerged ship has become a popular dive site and is regularly surrounded by tropical fish.
