Experiences Turkey is full of inspiring sights, from the ancient port city of Ephesus to Bodrum’s idyllic coastline. Visit Cappadocia’s otherworldly landscape of awe-inspiring rock formations, rock cones, fairy chimneys and cave entrances that reveal subterranean cities. From Bodrum, take a relaxing cruise along the rugged Aegean coast in a traditional sail boat or gulet. Escape to the ‘green city’ of Bursa, a land of beautiful scenery, Ottoman architecture, thermal springs and hammams.
Ride the cable car to the top of Uludağ Mountain, a national park ideal for summer trekking or winter skiing. Feel cleansed and revitalised after a trip to a traditional hammam in Istanbul, a unique experience and another legacy of the Ottomans. For a more relaxing break, the great beaches, lively nightlife and national parks of Antalya, the ‘Turkish Riviera’, are hard to beat. The site of Ephesus, once a great trading city, is not only the best preserved of Turkey’s grand ruins, but the best place in the Mediterranean to get a feel for life in ancient times.

When to visit In general, June to August’s summer weather is hot and dry. The best times to visit are when temperatures are more pleasant and the skies are clear during spring (April to May) and autumn (September to mid-November). The climate will vary from region to region, and from coast to coast. Summer: GMT +3 hours Winter: GMT +2 hours Currency: Turkish Lira (TRY). Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are plentiful in main towns. Languages: Turkish is the official language. English is spoken in places frequented by tourists.
