Munich has a well-deserved reputation as an elegant and sophisticated city. Home to the 1972 Summer Olympic Games, this modern and cosmopolitan city combines the high culture of opera, art and museums with the simpler pleasures of oompah bands and the Oktoberfest, a celebratory cornucopia of food, drink and friendliness. Situated just north of the Alps, Bavaria’s charming capital lies conveniently at the crossroads of Europe bordering Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Munich is a great starting point for touring within Germany or even Austria and Switzerland.

Experiences • Munich’s Oktoberfest is the largest folk fair in the world.
