Sri Lanka has a rich Buddhist heritage and is the oldest continually Buddhist country in the world. It is also a country of tropical forests, diverse landscapes and warm, friendly people. Sri Lanka Timeless ruins, welcoming people, oodles of elephants, endless beaches, fun trains, famous tea and flavourful food make Sri Lanka irresistible. THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY ROCS Travel takes you on an intriguing journey to Lanka, with expert guides showing you a culture that goes back 3,000 years. The sacred Kingdom of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s longest-serving capital, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The Kingdom of Kandy has literally risen from the ashes; after being burned and ravaged over and over it still maintains beautifully carved palaces and temples, preserved for nearly 500 years. Sri Lanka offers travelers much more than its past. In a country just 270 miles long and 140 miles wide, it has 15 national parks showcasing an abundance of wildlife (including the endangered Sri Lankan leopard), nearly 500,000 acres of lush tea estates, 350 waterfalls and hundreds of sleepy villages where life still revolves around coconut or tea farming. The Colombo National Museum features ancient sculptures and sketches dating back to the fourth century.

SRI LANKA 2023

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to Trincomalee for sightseeing tour. Trincomalee is a port city on the east coast of Sri Lanka. The city is built on a peninsula, which divides the inner and outer harbors. It is one of the main centers of Tamil-speaking culture on the island. Historically referred to as Gokanna or Gokarna it has been a sea port that has played a major role in maritime and international trading history of Sri Lanka. Trincomalee is a natural deep-water harbor, which is rated as one of the finest of its kind in the world and attracted great sea farers like Marco Polo, Ptolemy and Sea Traders China and East Asia from the ancient times. The long and wide beaches here offer surfing, scuba diving and fishing and whale watching. The small peninsula jutting out of Trincomalee town, near the stadium and the main shopping streets, is the Portuguese built Fort Frederick. It’s still a working military base but, you can walk through it. Inside the fort grounds are plenty of colonial style British army buildings, cannons and other leftovers from previous inhabitants and, bizarrely, loads of deer poking their heads out from behind the military

offices. This sea town is home to the Thirukonesvaram Kovil, which is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Sri Lanka there are many things to do and see in town and the views across the three main bays are very pretty. It is found on Swami Rock, just above Fort Frederick. It’s very colourful and you can walk around the grounds. The temple is built on top of the cliff, tottering right on the edge of the Indian Ocean. Next to Koneswaram Temple is Lovers Leap. The name kind of gives it away but it is indeed a favorite suicide spot, with a sheer drop to the ocean crashing against the rocks below. There’s a memorial and shelter, commemorating the legend behind the name. Apparently the daughter of an Old Dutch official here threw herself off the cliff when her forbidden lover had to sail back to Europe, never to see her again. The story was dampened slightly when records revealed that the girl in question in fact grew old in the town, married with children. But the name and memorial remains. whale watching. The small peninsula jutting out of Trincomalee town, near the stadium and the main shopping streets, is the Portuguese built Fort Frederick. It’s still a working military base but, you can walk through it. Inside the fort grounds are plenty of colonial style British army buildings, cannons and other leftovers from previous inhabitants and, bizarrely, loads of deer poking their heads out from behind the military offices. This sea town is home to the Thirukonesvaram Kovil, which is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Sri Lanka here are many things to do and see in town and the views across the three main bays are very pret ty.
